Figure drawing

Got to go back to figure drawing class last week. It was awesome, too, because the model did a half hour pose, and they usually don't go longer than fifteen minutes. All except for one thing. The hands weren't looking right, so I wiped them out completely - and of course thirty seconds later, the buzzer sounded for time. So here, have a drawing and just pretend the hands are finished?

A young blond woman in a light, frilly white skirt and a white top tied over her breasts and knotted in the back, sitting with her hands clasped on her knees

Four drawings of the same young woman, standing and leaning on a sun umbrella and leaning back with her hand on her hip

Ooh, nice!

It is also really interesting seeing figure-drawing done in a digital medium, I've never seen much of that.

There's a lot of different tricks to it, like setting up your colour palette on a corner of the canvas in between poses, and the order to layer the colours. So far the thing I've found works best is closest to how I was taught to do the figure in chalk pastel, working from the inside out. Like laying down a deep blood red/brown first, then laying the light over top of it like a layer of skin over muscle, then carving the deepest shadows with a dark brown.

Thanks. :) Yeah the faces didn't all come out right on the bottom ones, but there wasn't time to really fix them.

These are beautiful. And her outfit too, and the way you've captured it.

Lol about the hands huh?

Thanks. :) Yeah I really liked her skirt and I wished I had more time to fill in detail for it.

can I pin these on pinterest? I'll put whatever link and name you want on them, or none, if you want?

What's pinterest?

Actually I just looked it up. Um, sure... do you still have my portfolio link? You could use that instead of linking it back to LJ.

I'm envious. You are very good. I love looking at your drawings and other artwork.
So...were these done on paper then scanned in or did you do them on your computer?

I did them onto a tablet computer like this one, but there are other people in the class who use an iPad or even a smartphone. Plus some people who use traditional media.

I don't think I've ever asked, I know you do photography, but do you draw?

I used to, but it's been years ago.
