Lin is supposed to write something here about what exactly this is, but I can't make it happen.

Figurine (Lige)
That's awesome.

Re: Figurine (Lige)
Thank you. :)

Wow, that turned out great! I especially love the anatomy on the arms and hands, and the swirly blue looks very cool.

Dang, now you're making me want to experiment with sculpture more. *adds "attempt to make Sh-San out of clay* to ever-growing list of art projects I want to do*
Feb. 9th, 2010 05:48 pm (UTC)
I would love to see a sculpt of Sh-San.

You're welcome to share our sculpey and wire and such when you come, and we could get more supplies at Michael's. I could see if there's anything else that the kid wants to sculpt.

Cool! I have a lot of clay- I can bring some along with me.

Some other things I want to bring to show you are the computer game Obsidian, assuming it still works on my computer. It's an old puzzle/adventure game sort of like Myst, but it's set in a world that's supposed to be nanobots creating environments based on dreams, and they completely nailed the dream-like feel and it was very inspiring to me when I first played it back in middle school.

Also the movie Heima about Sigur Ros going on tour back in Iceland, for if we're all tired and want to relax and watch a very pretty music/art movie.

Do you guys happen to have a PS2? If not, I may think about bringing mine. It would also be fun to show you Shadow of the Colossus. Basically I want to have fun showing you cool inspiring art things. :)

...What if we don't like the same things?

Do we take turns doing the things we like? Do we do different things at the same time?

I'm not very good at liking the things people want me to like. :(

If you don't like it, you can tell me, and we can try to find something else that we both like. Or we can take turns showing each other things we like, or do different things at the same time. All of those sound pretty good. :)

I'm hoping that I have a slightly better sense of what you guys like than when I was at SCAD. Don't want to disturb you with FLCL stuff again. XD The games Obsidian and Shadow of the Colossus are more like big, slow-paced, atmospheric fantasy environments to explore around in. The Heima movie is about the band Sigur Ros getting homesick and deciding to give free concerts in remote locations around Iceland, has a lot of beautiful footage of landscapes, and is sort of a feel-good movie about bringing people together through art. Do those sound like things you might be interested in?

Have you ever played any of the old puzzle/adventure games like Myst?
Feb. 9th, 2010 11:59 pm (UTC)
I think I'll like the movie. And I really liked Myst. But part of what I liked about it was how brilliant the graphics looked, that's what was inspiring, those intricate worlds that Robyn Miller designed.

I'm just really finicky sometimes and I know it's a bad thing, but you said cool inspiring art things and...

Yeah, Obsidian has graphics of that level. It's like Myst set in a dream-like science fiction world.

I'm just really finicky sometimes and I know it's a bad thing

Don't worry about it. :) And I won't be offended if you don't like the things.

Ack. Okay, she just took off on me. Kid's kinda fey at the moment. Don't worry, though, we'll figure out out. Getting disturbed by weird anime isn't going to kill me. :P And I think the movie sounds interesting, and maybe the games. I had thought Shadow of the Colossus was a reflex game, or maybe I'm thinking of something else. You should bring your PS2 because I don't think we have one.
Feb. 10th, 2010 12:28 am (UTC)
Shadow of the Colossus is part beautiful atmospheric slow-paced fantasy world, part reflex game. There are only 16 enemies in the entire game, all boss battles. Think of it like a huge, detailed fantasy world full of forests and ruins, and you get to spend a long time just wandering through the world with your horse, and every now and then a very pretty golem the size of a skyscraper tries to kill you. :P I'm no good at reflex games and I can't beat all the bosses, but Ian played the game through for me the first time and I just sat there like *_* being completely fascinated because it's all so pretty. The graphics and world-building are fantastic. So if you don't like fighting games, I can just show you some of the enemies I can actually beat, and the rest we can just load the level and be like "ooooh pretty!" until it stomps us to death. XD

Hey Daria! You ever tried playing video games? XD
Feb. 10th, 2010 02:38 am (UTC)
*looks baffled*

I've - more likely been in them than played them. But I don't remember either.

They look so tiny from the outside! All that energy trapped in a tiny screen.

*shakes head to clear it* That was weird.
Feb. 10th, 2010 02:47 am (UTC)
OH FUCK! What if Pk makes a video game about you and I play it and so I'm like being you in the video game? O_O The meta is hurting my head. I need to not think about this.

Anyway! I'm all excited to come visit. Have you ever climbed a palm tree? :D
Feb. 10th, 2010 02:51 am (UTC)
Yes. Leaving the meta behind. XP

And nope. But I will if you will!

I might anyway. XD
Feb. 8th, 2010 08:58 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's totally awesome! :D

Hey Lin, you're kinda lucky. The sculpture you guys have of you is way less creepy-looking than the junk-doll we have of me. XD
Feb. 8th, 2010 09:00 pm (UTC)
But it was supposed to be creepy-looking! I'm not capable of doing creepy-looking, even when I want to. I hate that!
Feb. 8th, 2010 09:03 pm (UTC)
Well I mean she's IS kinda menacing-looking but you're not like "oh crap the sculpture's going to jump off the shelf and eat me".
Feb. 8th, 2010 09:10 pm (UTC)
Well, the creepy part was supposed to be the kifu, not her. But I couldn't figure out how to make the colors scary. That thing does eat people and it's supposed to be scary that she's touching it.
Feb. 8th, 2010 09:52 pm (UTC)
You guys have to tell me more about kifus sometimes so I can stop thinking about it as a tardis. :P Maybe I'll think it's more scary if I know the story.

I don't know how to color things scary, except to be like all stereotypical and make it be evil red and black or something. I guess you've got some creepy green in there, and the twisty roots look kinda scary. Blue is kinda a happy color in my book, but it's my favorite color, so maybe that's just me. Does Lin always do magic blue?
Feb. 8th, 2010 09:57 pm (UTC)
Lin never does magic blue and she spends half the story being terrified of blue magic. But nobody can get that just from looking at it. I put in the black tendrils with bits of red to try and make it evil but it's not enough.

I'm mad now. I'm going to try and fix it tonight. I think lighting is a big part of the problem.

Kifu is when they use uza to smash you into a box that's smaller than you are and then they seal it by putting it in a furnace and then they leave you in there for twenty years.

What does blue magic do?

Kifu is when they use uza to smash you into a box that's smaller than you are and then they seal it by putting it in a furnace and then they leave you in there for twenty years.

Okay. NOW I'm creeped out. People should not get squished into boxes. >:(
Feb. 8th, 2010 11:59 pm (UTC)
Maybe I have to do the writing then, because Lin won't do it right, 'cause she actually was in kifu and she put other people in. So she'd just make it sound like it was ok.

I don't really know what blue magic does. It's supposed to be water but this is a different kind of blue. I think it's ice.
Feb. 9th, 2010 02:23 am (UTC)
The colors look great...
Feb. 9th, 2010 05:45 pm (UTC)
Thanks :) I had fun doing the skin, though the clothes were a bit of a nightmare. There's two different layers of yellowish/purplish/white under there before I finally got a tolerable shade.
